As a freelance copy editor, I’ve done a series of activity books and merchandise products!

Due to NDA constraints, I will be updating this page as the products are released.

This was a uniquely challenging and exceptionally fun experience! Aside from traditional copy editing, where you’re looking for correct spelling and grammar, I also had to keep in mind translation consistency, making sure that names and terms from the English editions of the manga and television series were carried over accurately. Tone was also important to keep in mind — these are fun books, and keeping a playful and lighthearted feel was important! Some of the raw translations I was provided with felt stiff and a bit unnatural to a native English speaker, and making the language more readable was a big part of what I did here.

One of the most challenging parts of working on these books was that they often included puzzles and games that when translated, often no longer fit the original framework of the puzzle — for example, if you have a crossword puzzle where the answer is a word five letters across in the original language, but the translated word is seven letters…suddenly your crossword no longer fits! One thing I did was redraw and rework several puzzles in this way, providing possible alternatives to either make these puzzles work within the constraints of the original graphics, OR mock ups for the graphics team, to show how puzzles could be redrawn to fit the existing translated words and clues.

As someone who is already a huge fan of the SPY X FAMILY franchise, being able to work on these was a dream come true!!
